With a wide range of influences including Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Gary Burton, Charlie Shoemake, Milt Jackson and Fela Kuti, San Diego, California-based percussionist John Flood has spent many years in a multitude of projects, programs, and performances. He has collaborated with various dance companies and choreographers, has performed in theatrical productions, and has traveled and played with traditional drummers in Ghana, West Africa. One of John’s highlights was when he performed as the featured soloist with the San Diego Symphony under the direction of Jung Ho Pak in David Ward-Steinman’s Millennium Dances.
John has a Master of Arts Degree in Music Performance from the University of California, San Diego. He was the Director of Percussion and African Ensembles as well as a lecturer in various courses at San Diego State University.
Currently, John is busy working on original compositions based on his world music experiences. He is a freelance percussionist, vibraphonist, and plays locally with the classic rock cover band, Halo Effect, All Fired Up, and Step on the Rake.
